A few weeks ago I put out the call for “How To Be…” guest posts and I love the ones I’ve received so far.  Keep em coming.  This one is from Tari, and I love it-especially the part about not making pouty faces in pictures…as a reformed “duck face” myself, I’ve found smiling is way sexier.

Don’t let the media lead you into thinking that sexiness is a by-product of plastic surgery, a plunging neckline or the highest Christian Louboutin heels you can find (although these things can certainly enhance sexiness). Rather, it’s my opinion that true, innate sexiness is not about how you can alter or adorn yourself with things, but a part of who you are and how you express yourself.

Someone who is truly sexy will be sexy in a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt as well as an evening gown and stilettos.

Laugh genuinely and be quick to smile. Be witty and have a sense of humor. A great sense of humor is immeasurably sexy. Have you ever noticed how people who aren’t conventionally beautiful become extremely attractive when they’re constantly making you laugh and smile? My friend Lila is gorgeous, but the reason she’s also ridiculously sexy is because she’s got lightning-quick wit, a light-hearted, self-deprecating sense of humor, she’s intelligent and it’s fairly easy to get her laughing until there are tears in her eyes. (OK, her South African accent doesn’t hurt either.) But remember: beautiful, vapid women are a dime a dozen; the women with joie de vivre, humor and intelligence are so much more interesting and rare.

And yeah, that reminds me: there are so many contrived notions of what it means to be sexy. Stop pouting and posing. My mother actually pointed this out to me once when I was showing her some of my pictures; I always hate to admit it, but damn it, my mother is usually right. I was sporting the pouty mouth in a bunch of the pictures (which happens when I’ve been drinking a bit too much, but that’s neither here nor there) and she said, You should be smiling instead. Suddenly, I realized I looked ridiculous. Damn. Smiling, laughing, and yes, even silly faces would’ve looked more attractive.

Leave a little to the imagination. You don’t need to expose large expanses of flesh to be perceived as sexy by others. Have you ever noticed how shirts or dresses that expose one or both of your shoulders when everything else is covered, are really sexy? Shoulders are on display all the time, but somehow, when they’re just peeking out, that flash of skin that almost looks accidental becomes exciting. A guy I used to date remarked once that he thought one-shouldered shirts/dresses are so sexy. Or how about this: wear a pretty bra and panty set under a moderately modest outfit and then you’ll feel more confident and womanly, which will most likely come across to others.

Don’t dumb yourself down! I can’t stress this one enough. Ditsy, Valley Girl affectations and ways of speaking, a la Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton, are not sexy. I hear so many women who sound like airheads when they speak – at the gym, at restaurants, when I’m traveling – and it makes me cringe like acrylic nails on a chalkboard. You’re not doing yourself any favors by making yourself seem less intelligent than you are! Let’s all take a cue from Olivia Wilde, who is obviously sexy and very intelligent as well (I’ve had the pleasure of spending a bit of time with her); she recently said in an interview with Glamour magazine, “You can be a sexy, beautiful woman and be the smartest person in the room.” Always remember that sexiness and intelligence are not mutually exclusive. Rather, intelligence enhances sexiness.

Learn to be comfortable in your own skin and embrace the qualities that make you unique. Stop trying to be sexy and just be yourself. It sounds clichéd, but the people who aren’t afraid to wear the whimsical outfit they feel like wearing, who aren’t afraid to laugh loudly, who aren’t afraid to dine in a fancy restaurant by themselves, who aren’t afraid to get sweaty or dirty, are the ones who inadvertently catch others’ attention and admiration. And that’s dead sexy.

Name the movie, get a cookie.

This week has been a blur.  Like clockwork, once the weather changes even a little tiny bit, I get sick.   Shit show of an immune system or not though, I love this time of year and I know it’s played out to say that…but what can I tell you, I think I was born in boots and a scarf.

That visual is super weird.

Couple of new things around here-I bribed the ball and chain to fix things up and add a new “GET SWEATY” category in the header.  Don’t go actually clicking on it or anything drastic…there’s nothing actually there yet, but doesn’t it look pretty?

GET SWEATY is where I will be talking about uhh…getting sweaty.  Working out.  Running.  All my health, fitness and weight loss related mumbo jumbo. Most of you know that I’m studying for my Personal Trainer Certification in addition to a Lifestyle and Weight Management Certification, so I’d like to share some of the things I learn.  I’ve been trying to figure out a way to incorporate the sporty spice aspect of my life on the blog, and not alienate my fashionistas, so hopefully this will work out!

How To Posts.
How To Be Happy is one of the posts I’m most proud of, and not just because you guys seemed to like it. I loved writing it, pure and simple. I wrote it for me-I needed those reminders-it was almost like the rational side of my brain was telling the crackhead on the other side whats up. I need other reminders too, so I’m going to start a series of How To posts.  It’s not a very creative title for a series, but sometimes simplicity can’t be beat.  Coming up next is How To Be Confident. If you have any requests, or want to guest post with your own How To post let me know!

Happy Weekend! I will be working, popping advil cold and sinus, dragging said ball and chain to a pumpkin patch and probably buying yet another pair of boots I don’t need. Yay Fall!

Class is in session. (That was a back to school reference in case you missed it.) I’ve compiled a few of my fave hair tutorials and products for your viewing pleasure.
First up, this tutorial for relaxed curls changed my life. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, but it definitely changed the way that I curl my hair. Really.

Katie from Running On Happiness, mentioned something I had never heard before in all my hairstyling years. Her tip for twirling and slightly dragging the last bit of hair from the curling iron is a game-changer. You have to see it to believe it. She also has lots of other great tutorials on her blog (including this recent one for blow-drying) and the most adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (since my old puppy that is.)
I Am Style-Ish also has a great glam curls tutorial worth a look. Or check out this one for curls with a flatiron.

Truth be told, I’m a curly-haired girl.
I often shock the hell out of people when I fore go the blow dryer, round brush, flat iron, hour in the bathroom and just let things go natural.

One product that I cannot live with out, whether I’m going curly or straight is Moroccan Oil. I put it on after I’ve towel dried clean hair and it smells amazing. My hair’s pretty dry to begin with, on top of that I have colour and highlights, the oil keeps it soft and fights frizz. On curly days, I use the oil as well and also the same brand’s Intense Curl Cream before I let my hair air dry.

If your hair is fine, hot rollers are a great source for volume. (For the love of God, don’t ever flatiron your hair before you attempt to curl it. Maybe just your roots if you’re a friz-monster like me)

#1 and #2- Pureology Pure Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. Since I have extensions, I have to use Pureology, which I love but the price blows. Herbal Essences makes a great one I used before I got my weave did, yo. What I do love about Pureology is that while some other volumizing products rough up the cuticle to add volume and that can result in frizz-Pureology is still uber moisturizing and pumps up the cuticle with all natural, vegan ingredients.

#4 Frederic Fekkai All Day Hair Plump Ok…I love this. I originally got a sample from Sephora and was hooked. The price tag kind of sucks-but mix it with the Surf Spray on wet hair and VA-VA-VOOM! Again, it’s super conditioning so your big hair will be soft! I use this OR the fantabulous Moroccanoil that I’ve blogged about here.#5 Ok…products in. Now it’s time to blowdry. I use a big round brush and work in the OPPOSITE direction my hair lies, kind of stretching my hair against my head as I go. In addition to the opposite direction thing, I turn my head upside down and go to town until it’s still damp, and then smooth with a paddle brush. GOAL-to look like you got electrocuted at this point.

#6 and #7 I will curl my hair with my flat iron as seen here when I want smooth on top but pretty princess curls at the bottom, however when I want BIG HAIR, I use velcro rollers and bobby pins. (I use pins because I have so much hair that the rollers tend to fall.) OR I make my own curls and pin minus the rollers. I spray each section of hair HEAVILY before I pin it. I’m used to sleeping on them which really works the best. If you can’t, finish blow drying on low and spray like crazy.

Dolls…you never cease to amaze me. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your sweet comments and emails regarding my last post. It was floating around in my head all weekend, and it felt so good to get it out. Besos x a million to all of you.

So the name of my blog stems from my completely vain and unapologetic obsession with my hair. BFF Istvan saw me one day and proclaimed me Unbeweavable…and a blog name was born. I am really high maintenance when it comes to my hair, for awhile I was the girl getting blowouts a few times a week, but yeah…that gets really expensive. And I like shoes too…

I have been asked if I have extensions. To quote Big from SATC “absofuckinglutely!” I love them. No shame in my game! If you have any questions about extensions, different methods, etc…let me know!

These are a few of my favorite ways to wear my hair lately-

Messy loose curls, also known as “after a roll in the hay hair”(wink wink)-this is how I usually do my hair on a daily basis. My tips are below!

Adding a little braid is always fun. I think we’ve all seen this lately on the Hills, right? I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing, but for me it’s just a little something fun to do when I put my hair in a ponytail. Makes me feel less lazy
The messy, messy ponytail is my favorite! This is fabulous for days when your hair is too crazy to wear down but you don’t have time to start from scratch. Ponytails like this work much, much better on un-washed hair, anyway. Adding a little headband at the roots gives lift AND, if you’re growing out bangs or have long, side bangs like I do, this will keep them out of your face!
Updo’s don’t always have to be tight and severe…I love the height of this style, and I love how it looks a bit messy but still formal. The make-up is fierce too…Make-Up post coming soon.

Pulling a ponytail just halfway through its fastener gives it new shape. Create a deep side part, then sweep the sides back and clip them in place behind your ears with a thin barrette or bobby pin. Next, make a low ponytail, but pull the tail only halfway through the elastic on the final loop. Use your fingers to loosen the hair gently above the band, and spray like a mutha!

Pining a bit of hair off the face reminds me of Catherine Deneuve…so 1960′s chic. My tips for this are to make sure that you pull a wide section of hair back, temple to temple is what I like to go by and secure it behind the crown. You can also tease the front section before pinning it back to get height. This is another great one for you if you have bangs that are buggin!

Ok so this is me…as you know…I’m just using this picture because it’s my fav of my hair.Between being a make-up artist for many years, and being both in front and behind the camera, I’ve learned a few things about hair that I thought I’d share with you!

My Unbeweavable tips (extensions or not)…

-Find a really good shampoo and conditioner that caters to your hair type. I only use Pureology or Kerastase. I have found that spending a bit of extra money on shampoo and conditioners is actually worth it, for me at least.

-Unless you absolutely must, DO NOT shampoo your hair everyday. I usually go 3 days. “Dirty” hair is better for updo’s and shampooing everyday can really dry out your hair. Just condition the ends in the shower! TRUST ME!

-On this note, dry shampoos have come along way. Some days my ends are perfection but my roots look a little too dirty…I am obsessed with Rene Furterer Natura Dry Shampoo.The link above takes you to Sephora.com, where I’d suggest buying it because anytime I go into a store to get it, it’s sold out and that’s really irritating…

-I use a flat iron to curl my hair. It’s actually easier for me to do than using a curling iron. I am curling iron challenged, but this works even better, I think! This is the flat iron I use-if you are going to be flat ironing/curling every day, I really suggest investing in a high quality tool to prevent damage. It’s all in the flick of the wrist! -A few other favorite products

Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream
Gabby and I have been using this for years, and it’s always on the top 10 lists, etc. It’s perfect for smoothing out any frizz and smells so yummy. My only tip with this one-use sparingly!! And don’t let it near your roots, ends only!

John Freida Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray

See, not everything is expensive! This is like 5 bucks and it’s AMAZING, and I’m a hair spray whore! The best thing about it is that it doesn’t get all crunchy and nasty no matter how many times you use it during the day and into the night! I’ve tried really expensive ones, but this is my staple! And you can get it at TARGET! Yay!
