Aww you guys, I feel so bad. I have barely opened my laptop in the last couple of days and have been a horrendous bloggy buddy. I’m sorry…but I’m hoping that since we’re all busy, you won’t hold it against me?!

You look really good today, too. Just sayin. That color makes your eyes just absolutely sparkle.

Awkward…anyways. Random post #2 of the week, because umm why not. Have you guys seen the Sex and the City 2 Trailer yet…omfg I die! Can’t wait doesn’t even begin to describe it. Here you go if you haven’t seen it…or want to watch it over and over like I have all night.

Here are the bangs!! I didn’t take too many pictures this weekend because I was drunk busy, but this is on the way to Cali Christmas #1.. And do I look pleased? NASOMUCH. We were late and still had to stop by Best Buy for a last minute present…nothing like a good lil holiday procrastination, of which I am the queen.

Memories and Bangs

Hey Dolls…

Memories can be triggered by so many things. A commercial, a song, a smell…when you least expect it, can take you back…

I love CVS/Walgreens, any drugstore works. Being a total product whore, I can get lost inside for hours. Even walking around NYC when I travel for work, I always wander into the corner Duane Reed and end up with some random lipgloss and a magazine to take back to my hotel with me. (And maybe some peanut m&ms.)

Yesterday, I spent some time with my Mom. I have one of the coolest mothers ever, she’s really my best friend and probably my favorite shopping buddy. I was on the hunt for yet another pair of leggings, maxi dresses, sunglasses, cheap and cheerful stuff for summer. Somehow, shockingly, we stopped into CVS on the way back…because I NEEDED something. As I wandered down the cosmetics aisle, not looking for anything particular, I found this…and I thought my Mom and I were going to completely loose it in CVS.

Coty Airspun Loose Powder. Ay yi yi…

I’ve mentioned my grandmother-Nana-in many of my previous posts. To say that she is my favorite person that I’ve ever known sounds so trivial. Today I told my Mom, “We share a soul.” And she just nodded…because we do. I am exactly like her in so many ways, it’s creepy. My sister and I spent a lot of time with my Nana and Papa growing up-being the daughters of a jet setter Mom, we spent many summers at their house, in the pool, being spoiled, eating the best home cooking ever and watching lots of MASH and Murder, She Wrote. (Hence…Gabby, She Wrote). Nana and Papa were among the very few constants in our life.

My love for fashion and all things lovely stems from my Nana. Everyday we would beg her to sketch for us…I can only hope that some of her sketches will be found one day. She would sketch the most beautiful women wearing gorgeous gowns, paying attention to every detail. It was mesmerizing, and she would do it over and over for us.

Nana had TWO walk-in closets filled with the most fabulous clothes for a ten year old budding fashionista to play dress up in. Some I couldn’t even reach, it was so big. And the jewelry and the shoes…hours were spent in there, and the coolest thing about Nana…she didn’t care what I wore, she’d let me flounce around in a fur coat, dripping in crazy jewelry all day, all her fabulous clothes thrown everywhere.

Nana also had the bathroom dreams are made of. She had a vanity where her perfumes and creams, and powders were meticulously laid out…I was, again, a kid in a candy store. Nana always had Coty loose powder and I would get that stuff everywhere. EVERYWHERE. (Luckily my make-up skills improved, or else all my future clients would have looked like Casper the friendly ghost). At the time, I believe Coty was high-end and sold at now closed dept stores like Broadway and Buffums. Remember those? Old school…

Anyway…yesterday. My mom and I stopped dead in our tracks when we saw Coty loose powder at CVS. The old school packaging first grabbed our attention and we were both like no way do they have this here!? and then…when we opened it…the smell. It smelled like Nana. It was like every childhood memory came rushing back to me. My Mom said it reminded her of her grandmother. We both got teary, and started smelling it like two crazies This is Nana when she was I believe, around my age.

My Nana was gone long before she passed away. Seeing someone I love more than life deteriorate over a period of ten years is one of the most horrible experiences I have ever had. I just, we all just wanted her back, but she was lost inside herself. Nana kept trying to sketch for me, her hand shaking, until she just couldn’t do it anymore.

Because I was so young during the good years while she was so healthy and vibrant, it’s hard for me not to look back and automatically remember the hard years. The last time I saw her, everyone left the room and I held her hand and said my goodbyes. I like to believe, have to believe, that she knew I was there, that she could hear me tell her how much I love her.

Yesterday I left CVS with Vanity Fair Magazine, some gum…and Coty Airspun Loose Powder. I will never use it, but in a way seeing it in MY bathroom next to MY perfumes and makeup, makes me feel that much closer to Nana. Like maybe I have a bit of her back, and if I catch a whiff of the stuff (it’s strong)…I’ll be reminded of the happy years. I miss Nana, but our family celebrates her, and she would be very upset if I was writing a bummer post about her, so while writing this does make me cry, this post is in no way depressing. Nana is why I love fashion, why I do what I do, why I am who I am.

So on another note, kinda, while I was looking for this picture of Nana, I found a picture of Gabby, She Wrote and I, circa maybe 1987? Things haven’t changed a bit! I’m still a terror, and she’s still sweet as pie. (Allegedly)

And now I have the same bangs! Talk about full circle…Have a lovely weekend dolls! XOXO, Liz

Happy Thursday lovelies!

Sooo…I’ve decided to go prance around online and see what happens! Thank you for sharing your stories and thoughs. I will DEFINITELY be blogging about my online dating adventures. Maybe I’ll start a weekly series or something, at the very least for entertainment value! I am doing my best to get back to all of you who commented on this post, I really appreciate your insights and know it’s personal to many of you…so I’m comin!

I got a little frustrated last night at the blogosphere…but the situation has been resolved, and I think this is the perfect time for some link LOVE.

Style It Out!…With the Hoff

Fashion shows are fun!

The pictures below are from one I did when I was Marketing Manager at Arden B…we held it at the Cooper Building in Downtown LA and it was fabulous. The signature cocktails I had the catering company come up with were even more fabulous, as you can see in the second picture. Open bar, much? Let’s just say that if Elizabeth is planning it, there’s going to be an open bar. I have my budget priorities in order HA.

Some of the girls from the Hills were there, Lauren and whatever her name is Audrina? Nicole, Paris…But the best BEST BEST was that David Hasselhoff’s daughter is a big fan of Arden B…so the Hoff showed up with her. I don’t think anyone could take their eyes off him. So bizarre.

So anyway, my bangs…what do you guys think? I’m thinking of getting them back. I have not discussed this with the bf (but he’s reading this I’m sure, so hi baby what do you think?:))

I’m working a weird half day today later but I’m super excited because I’m styling out a photoshoot, which is def one of my top ten things to do in LIFE. I love working on photoshoots! When I was at Arden and it was campaign photoshoot time, my brand manager would yell “style it out, betch” and we would make a huge disaster in the studio until we had the perfect looks to present to the Executive Team in our meeting the next morning.

I always found it slightly amusing/annoying that a bunch of number crunchers wearing suits and ties would try to tell us what they liked and what they didn’t. But we usually won the war.

So, last night, insomnia caused me to bug Istvan about blogging…so he did. I requested MAC shadows VS Chanel or Dior, and you guys need to read what he wrote. And see the picture.

He’s totally hating on MAC (which was to be expected) but whateves, they don’t pay my bills so much anymore, so I agree with a lot of what he says.

If you guys have any beauty questions and/or you just want a laugh, go to him.
