Dress You Up In My Love…

by Liz on November 9, 2009 · 84 comments

in ASOS, Fashion, I want it all, Kelly, Mondays, dresses, hanako66, keep it ladylike, sponsors, the badger colony, winner

Happy Monday! In my head, that sounded totally sarcastic so just in case it didn’t translate-TOTALLY SARCASTIC. But anyway! The project I’m working on requires me to go into an office (I’m sure I’m getting blank stares from most of you…as you read this from your offices), and last week I was bored out of my mind with my outfits! Therefore, no lookbooks…yet. I love dresses…they’re so easy to throw on, and Hanako, Kelly and Maegan inspire me with the dresses they wear to work. I have to admit though, that dresses are one retail sector that kind of intimidate me, especially when it comes to the workplace. I can wear whatever the heck I want, one of the perks of working in a creative industry, however…if you have boobs or curves like me-lots of dresses can go from cute to skank in 2.5 secs…not professional at all. Below are dresses I would wear to work that won’t break the bank (I despise spending a fortune on work clothes, let’s save that for the Loubies kthxbai.)

{This might not work in every office, but in mine paired with tights, it’d be perfect}

{There is so much I could do with this one. Blank canvas!}

{So versatile! Above-9 am team mtg, below- 6 pm team drinking yay}

{Simple. I am dying over navy right now, too.}

{Perfection}

{Sexy without boobies in the face! lol. Jersey, V-Neck, add tights and boots…WIN}
This lil number is NOT for work…I don’t work on the corner. I jest. If this doesn’t scream LIZ I don’t know what does. I love the bright color and the fact that it is not strapless!! I heart support. This is perfect for a fabulous, badass evening on the town, maybe in SF? Just sayin.

All of the above from ASOS. I wish they were hanging in my closet NOW. Boo wtf am I gonna wear tomorrow ughhhh!!! Sunday night grumpies, party of one…

In other news, I have the Ciao, Chessa! winner to announce!! My lovey banana badger was forced gracious enough to pick the lucky number via gchat this evening…number 84- Carissa from The Lovely Dove it is all you woman! Have your people talk to my people and let’s do the damn thing :) Congrats, doll!

Happy Monday, this time, sarcasm free. Mostly. Hope ya’ll had fabulous weekends.
XOXO,
Liz

I hate picking out what to wear tooooo, wish I had all those in my closet… loving you darling and yay for the winner.

2 Meaghan November 8, 2009 at 10:28 pm

I also hate picking out what to wear. I go to art school so you would think everyone would dress really cool but they still dress very casual and I have this weird thing where I can dress up much easier..casual is still something i have yet to master..all you items are adorable i love the last dress as well..but i have to say the day to night dress is a winner!

3 Aritza, Goddess of .. November 8, 2009 at 10:48 pm

Muahaha you're hilarious. Your picks are totally gorgeous and I can picture you in the navy already .. woah.
I don't have much freedom in my choices for work wear but you inspire me to leave the frumpy at home and dress my age. I gotta let go of some of my conservatism :P
Happy monday .. urgh it'll be a rough one 'cuz it's almost 2 am now.. AH ! gotta go. xoxox

4 L.A. Daze November 8, 2009 at 10:57 pm

I'm so with you on the curvy body + dress thing. There are so many cute dresses but once I put it on it's like OMG so not work appropriate unless I want all the guys to stare at my ass.

Can't wait to see a lookbook!

5 my so called fab kelly November 8, 2009 at 11:32 pm

the pink and leather…um HELLO that definitely screams Liz worthy outfit!

and who cares if it doesnt seem like its work appropriate… maybe youll start the trend of getting everyone else at work to dress the F up..mmhmm

miss you a LOT – i mean A LOT xoxoxo

oh and thanks for the shout out mang…now get your LB together and post it

psst. anon monday tomorrow

6 .:*aMbAr*:. November 8, 2009 at 11:33 pm

The one with the pocket.. OOOMMMMGG!!

And ASOS is one of the places [website] I can spend HOUURSS searching through and never EVUURR get tired of.

BTW: have you ever ordered anything from there? I'm too chicken to do so :S

7 Midtown Girl November 8, 2009 at 11:41 pm

Ooh I adore dresses – I tend to overdress all the time…but whatevz that's moi!

LOL – you can't go wrong with it doll…

btw – you would have been so proud of me today – I was in E.Village getting my hair done in full LA gear – faux fur vest, leggings, boots & long cardi-West coast stylin!!

XOXO

8 Rachael November 9, 2009 at 12:00 am

Sooo….I had so much work for school to do yesterday that I was totally fooled into thinking it was already Monday. Boo-hiss.

But those are some cute dresses that would definitely brighten my monday ; )

9 Carissa November 9, 2009 at 12:48 am

oh my goodness!!! I can't believe I won! I never win things like this, but I am so happy that I did! :)

and I am totally with you on the dresses. I heart dresses of all kinds because they are easy to put on, easy to wear and if you get the right one, they look great. though, I do struggle sometimes to find one that doesn't make "the girls" too in-your-face! haha.

ahhh! I'm still excited I won! will email you pronto! thank you!!

10 Chic 'n Cheap Living November 9, 2009 at 1:27 am

I love Asos – all these cool random UK finds. Have fun at the office. Well there is a big benefit to dresses as Rachel Roy put it "I only wear dresses because I never want to have to show people the shape of my thighs" (paraphrased). The A-line is great for those still want to be cute, but not feeling the clinginess days.

11 Lisa November 9, 2009 at 1:52 am

Isn't ASOS amazingggg? I just found out about them a few months ago after moving to the UK…you can EASILY go bankrupt in a matter of minutes. haha. Love all the things you posted! You office is going to look so stylish!! :)

12 Dustjacket Attic November 9, 2009 at 2:04 am

You are so funny love …. Ooo love your would be outfits, so cool.

Happy Monday honey …. :o

Congrats to Carissa,
xxx

13 Sara November 9, 2009 at 2:22 am

omg that third to last dress is just beyond gorgeous!!!

14 janettaylor November 9, 2009 at 2:41 am

Beautiful dresses! Oh yeah!

XoXo

15 Marian November 9, 2009 at 5:04 am

I'd like one of each dress. Please and thank you.

Monday always comes too soon. But hope you had a lovely weekend.

xoxo

16 nicole addison November 9, 2009 at 5:07 am

ohhhh god.. im sitting in my office right now haha and you made me happy:) those dresses are all lovely, (im obsessing over the 3rd one right now) i wish i could dress cute to work, damn ymca! i hope this week isnt as boring darling, love u!

17 LifestyleBohemia November 9, 2009 at 5:19 am

love love love the gray dress in the second photo. All of these selections are fabulous. My wardrobe consists mostly of very plain basics and I love to accessorize, so these are all perfect for me :)
Have a great day!
xx

18 Ams November 9, 2009 at 5:38 am

Happy Monday!
I LOVE the outfits… especially that bottom one. But you are right, probably not exactly work appropriate! The rest though, super cute yet totally office worthy :)
And for the record, my Happy Monday was also insanely sarcastic!

19 bananas. November 9, 2009 at 5:52 am

hi.

banana badger here. heading to work right but i wanted to make my appearance bright and early.

be back soon. PEACE.

20 sarah November 9, 2009 at 5:56 am

I hate picking work clothes because I work in an environment where it is completely unappreciated. It makes getting ready for work a total drag.

21 Kristen November 9, 2009 at 6:01 am

i am not a dress fan but of course your picks i would sooooooo wear and rock. have a great week, liz!! :) xoxo

22 Marjorie November 9, 2009 at 6:11 am

Those dresses are all adorable…but also all about 6 inches too short to be appropriate for my office. Freaking state offices and their "dress codes". Ugh.

23 Kimi November 9, 2009 at 6:13 am

I'm in love with that navy one. I would so wear it, if my legs looked like that!

24 E November 9, 2009 at 6:33 am

I really like that trench-like black dress! I wear a lot of dresses to work, only because I'm lazier and they're easier than matching two pieces together. I do not function well in the morning.

25 Jaime November 9, 2009 at 6:45 am

Great dresses! Love ASOS :)

Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

26 SG November 9, 2009 at 6:48 am

I love those dresses. My office is very casual, I can wear jeans everyday if I want which is great but there are some days I do feel like dressing up. I always worry that on the days I dress up they think I have secret job interview somewhere else!

P.S. I hate Mondays, but I love you :)

27 Melanie's Randomness November 9, 2009 at 7:00 am

Love these dresses. At my job I don't have to dress up. I'm actually sitting in my office with a pair of jeans on, sneakers, & an old shirt. I wish I could wear dresses at work without getting the, "Ohhh why are you dressed up today?". lol. I too am curvy so I have to watch what I wear, so I feel ya on that. =)

That pink dress is absolutely adorable. Go for it girl!!

28 Yamila November 9, 2009 at 7:03 am

Hi Doll! Darling, Oh Wow! So nice dresses! My fav: The 2º, 3º & 6º (perfection! Yay!)

Have a good week loveee! :) ))))

29 Alianna November 9, 2009 at 7:04 am

I understand you on more than one count Liz. I loathe dressing for work and no matter how stylish I am in my free time, work sucks the life out of me… and I can't just wear whatever I want. Yet, I still don't sink money into work clothes. I'm retarded.

I don't know if it's too warm in Cali this time of year, but tights make any skirt office-appropriate. Get some black semi-opaque ones with designs!

And that pink dress – I die. I must find a motorcycle jacket pronto!!

30 Anika November 9, 2009 at 7:10 am

My gorgeous girl! Thank you so much for the lovely wishes :)
p.s. I know EXACTLY what you're saying….curves and what appear to be sane dresses isn't always so.But your picks are exquisite, so thank you for sharing. I could and would wear all of them.

p.s. check out my blog for a lil ol' award ;)

31 learnxtoxfly November 9, 2009 at 7:24 am

Love every single one of those dresses!

32 Summer November 9, 2009 at 7:36 am

I don't even have an office to go to, and yet….I will still take one of each please!!!

Especially those first two.

Yummy!

33 Erika November 9, 2009 at 7:40 am

Congratulations Carissa!

I so heart you for posting this, Liz. That is one thing that I have always loved about the creative industry – being able to wear whatever you want (i.e. jeans, boots, t-shirts) without anyone judging you for it. Though I worked in an office for a year, and felt like I was completely out of my element. I wish you had been there then to show me these dress. I need them! Four and six are my favorites – though I want eight more than anything else! Gor-geous! :)

34 bananas. November 9, 2009 at 7:40 am

AHHH! the pink dress is FABOO to the fullest. i love it, want it, desire it on you. for SF?! YES PLEASE!!!

i absolutely despise spending money on work clothes, which explains why i look so drab most of the time.

when i worked for a private optometrist office years ago, i ALWAYS got in trouble for work attire and that was when i looked cute everyday. because i am bustier on the top, all my v neck or scoop neck shirts would show slight cleavage…NOT ON PURPOSE! and apparently the old men would peep. so GROSS!!! so i quickly changed to high neck tops and we were all good in the hood.

anyway, LOVE YOU. hope today isn't as insane as last week. ttyl!

*MUAH*

35 missy. November 9, 2009 at 8:21 am

not feeling the navy, but that's just me. not a huge blue girl.

as for the rest of the dresses. looove them. totally agree with you on the dress aspect. girls with curves def can have a struggle finding the right dress to make them not look like a skank.

plus.. how could i give up my jeans? i can on a rare occasion but for the most part dresses are for outtings only. i'm learning to love them for work though.

progress liz. progress.

hope you had a bad ass weekend my love!

36 Talk Pretty To Me November 9, 2009 at 8:29 am

Ohhhh I love the first two dresses. ESP the grey one. Great picks doll. Did you get your leggings?

xoxo

37 Nina (Femme Rationale) November 9, 2009 at 8:36 am

i'm the opposite of missy…i LOVE blues. big fan of navy! love ur choices babe!…gonna go check out asos now.

hope everything's great, mama! xoxo

38 Mrs EyeCanSee November 9, 2009 at 8:43 am

I love dresses, but often have similar problem with the skank factor. Big boobs and long legs make everything too short and show too much cleavage. I'm loving some of the ones you picked though…and with tights even I could pull some of them off!

39 Rose Red November 9, 2009 at 9:10 am

Yes, I love all of those dresses.

40 Keith November 9, 2009 at 9:25 am

These are all so beautiful. I love them all. I hope you are doing well. Take care. Have a great week. Cheers!

41 nifer November 9, 2009 at 9:36 am

I feel your pain, which is why I love working from home. I can wear whatever I want. When I do go into the office, it's usually a Thursday or Friday — which are casual — so I throw on jeans and a cute top.

Those dresses are very cute… good luck!

42 Couture Carrie November 9, 2009 at 9:49 am

Love that first gray dress so!

Congrats to the winner, too!

43 Kristin November 9, 2009 at 10:09 am

Sexy without boobies…ah ha ha ha. They're all fabulous of course. Just like my Lizzy. But that last one…mama likey a lot! I missssssssssssed you. I'm trying to re-enter the blogosphere after my booze filled hiatus. Ah ha ha. We NEED to catch up! Pics will be forthcoming!!

44 Brunch at Saks November 9, 2009 at 10:15 am

Ohhh I love all of these! That last one is to.die.for!!! XOXO

45 Kellie November 9, 2009 at 10:20 am

Mondays are the worst aren't they? But your selection of beautious dresses just brightened mine up! :) Love them all. And that last one w/ the leather jacket and booties! BANANAS!

xoxo

46 Selma November 9, 2009 at 10:39 am

Picking out what to wear is a drag, but I would definitely take the third dress (the black one). Amazing. I wish I could wear something like that over here. Can't. So need to move and change that. :)

47 Brown Girl November 9, 2009 at 10:42 am

I need some new dresses for work. I love all of the ones you picked out. Everyone at my office is so old that no one understands what's "in" or not here…so sad.

48 Hanako66 November 9, 2009 at 10:48 am

you need to get the pink!

ever since I stopped working in the financial industry, I stopped buying work clothes and just make what I have work!

thanks for the linky lover!

49 Hanako66 November 9, 2009 at 10:49 am

50 drollgirl November 9, 2009 at 10:54 am

52 Hilary November 9, 2009 at 11:18 am

53 Kym November 9, 2009 at 11:19 am

"i dont work on the corner".. hahaha! u crack me up ;P i used to have to dress like that (not the corner girl, the girls above) to work but now i work in a more flexi office and can wear whatever i want! gotta love it! :)

"happy" monday to you too lady!

54 Melissa November 9, 2009 at 11:40 am

I want the black sheer one with the creme collar. I want!

I've missed ya girly, lots!

And by the way that dress with the leather jacket is just perfection! It screams Liz!

Happy Monday, love.

55 OceanDreams November 9, 2009 at 11:41 am

I love all of these dresses Liz, especially your pink party dress for San Fran, you should totally get it and reward yourself and head out on the town when your project is over! Hope that is going well by the way, XOXO!

56 siovhan November 9, 2009 at 11:57 am

i'm swooning over the pink dress. actually that's a lie, i'm swooning over that entire ensemble.

i hope your day at the office is fantastic. and i hope that piece is part of your closet soon!!

57 Ladyee Boutique November 9, 2009 at 12:33 pm

All super cute darling! I just got in a MinkPink number similar to #2. Happy Monday sweetie!

58 WendyB November 9, 2009 at 12:57 pm

The 2nd one is a nice backdrop for a great necklace.

59 A. November 9, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Love all of them! Luckily I can wear these things to work so thanks for the ideas!

60 Dream Sequins November 9, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Woo woo! Love all these picks. I'm secretly rocking the ASOS in my wardrobe right now. Some affordable gems to be had, I must say! Love most of your picks. But the hot pink catches my fancy most of all. LOL– I was just over at Kristin's BonBonRose and zeroed in on the hot pink today, too.

Think the bright pink would go well with your platinum blonde do????

xx

61 Alicia November 9, 2009 at 2:23 pm

holy crap…the dresses….did it have a POCKET?!?!?!! talk about love at first sight!! so amazing lady! and i know you'll bring it in whatever you're wearing!!

62 TheBeautyFile November 9, 2009 at 3:29 pm

I love: "my lovely banana badger was {forced} gracious enough…..hahahaha! Don't you love forcing people to do things for the blog? It's for the sake of blogging people!!!!

That's that.

I love dresses for work…..with tights…..and boots……or high pumps…..

Your picks: perfect.

But damn you for pointing these out to me.

63 Shop N' Chomp November 9, 2009 at 3:42 pm

That last outfit totally has your name written all over it! :D So badass…

64 MuLtI-CoLoReD SPRINKLES November 9, 2009 at 5:54 pm

I am in love with dresses they are always my outfit of choice when dressing for work..paired with different kinds of tights and boots of course…PS I LOVE YOU! Thanks for the comment today is a better day! :-)

65 Chessa! November 9, 2009 at 6:29 pm

eek! these are ALL amazing. I love that last one too but my favorite is the versatile one that goes from day to night…well, that might all do that but I like the one you singled out. and I love support up there…I definitely need it!

congratulations to the winner of the giveaway!! Let me know which print!!
:)

66 mommywonderland November 9, 2009 at 6:38 pm

These are absolutely the sexiest dress and I must HAVE them all!!!!! Dang, more to add to my Xmas list for sure!!

67 la petite fashionista November 9, 2009 at 7:20 pm

i hate having to change up my wardrobe for work. i hope my future career is in a creative workplace with a flexible dress code! the dresses you pick are a great happy medium :)

68 Oh...dear me November 9, 2009 at 7:47 pm

3,4 love, but the most I like is the last one! I wish I had a job to obsess on what to wear!
I have the curviest body shape, big boobs, small waist, and the biggest hips on earth plus a lil post baby lamp :c( so its hard to find stuff for me, but that last dress… drooling…

69 ema.leigh November 9, 2009 at 8:59 pm

ok… the Jersey V-Neck… I could probably live in ALL SEASON LONG. Tights and some boots… good to go.

I have the SAME problem you do though… curves. Sometimes good, but makes it hard to wear these cute little jersey knit dresses. GRRRRRR…

I need to go run. ;)

70 J-Diggety November 9, 2009 at 10:09 pm

Picking out what to wear is easy for me: hmmm, black or pink tights? sweats or yoga pants? this tank top or that? LOL… I miss wearing cute clothes!! Which is why I will put on makeup and do my hair for weekend errands like the grocery store. Oh lordy, it's hilarious!

Miss Lizzy Marie, have I ever told you how much I love reading your blog? I get really excited and shriek a little when a new post of yours pops up on my blog roll… just thought you should know ;)

xoxo J

71 Margarita November 9, 2009 at 11:10 pm

I totally get the curves and boobs thing – when I worked in an ultra fashiony store, every girl in there was a twig in mini dresses and hot shoes, and when I wore the same thing I attracted all the WRONG attention!! I agree that anything with support or a higher neckline definitely is "more professional".

72 Carlotta November 10, 2009 at 2:49 am

great finds, I love asos I actually have the 2nd and the 5th dress..I buy too much from them!!

73 Melissa Blake November 10, 2009 at 5:07 am

Of course the pink one is my favorite!

74 Keith November 10, 2009 at 6:16 am

I wanted to let you know that I've given you an award in my Tuesday blog post on my Dino Lounge blog. Cheers!

75 DesBisoux November 10, 2009 at 6:26 am

mmmm! k, so i would love to wear that. But it just doesn't agree with…rounder/larger bums! damn it!

76 Miss Kate November 10, 2009 at 7:07 am

The pink dress is pretty much the cutest thing ever!

I am so proud of you lizzy.
You inspire us all to follow our dreams and make them a reality.

77 Ela November 10, 2009 at 8:20 am

Hhhmmm…got no boobage or curves so I'm pretty much good to wear almost anything without looking skanky. LOL, mostly I look like I just got out of a convent but alas – tis me :)

I lurve all these dresses and you'd look ah-mazing in the last number! Oh and crazy about navy too. I can't shake it off and have been buying one navy thing a month, LOL.

78 Sarah Lynn November 10, 2009 at 8:41 am

My job doesn't care what I wear either, so it would be stressful picking stuff out for a job that does. I love, love, love number 3. It's too cute, and it even has pockets!

79 Posh November 10, 2009 at 9:17 am

Great items, really love each of them! Only.., I'm not loving the quality of ASOS! It's just HORRIBLE, it's a shame because they have nice items..

80 ...love Maegan November 10, 2009 at 1:36 pm

"…from cute to skank" ahahahhaha. so funny …but so true. Thanks for the link love ;) …I have to say I LOVE that little gray one and the one directly below it. …oh and that leather jacket please ;)

81 MizzJ November 10, 2009 at 6:25 pm

Love that last grey dress and the pink one! You should totally get those.

82 The Socialite November 10, 2009 at 6:55 pm

Great selection! ASOS doesn't disappoint! ;) Perfect for holiday parties!

83 Summer B. November 11, 2009 at 7:32 am

Sorry, was that rated R?

:(

84 Diana November 11, 2009 at 8:56 am
