FRIDAY! An Unbeweavable day, if I do say so myself over here at my little place o’ the internets. Sorry for the delay…but without further adieu…how I get my hair SO BIG!!! Please note-I’ve been reading some comments-I don’t do this everyday, but when I do it takes under an hour.

(I’m keeping my own face off le blog for a lil due to recent events which sucks for this post, sorry loves. But I found some big badass hair for you anyway!)
What I Use…

#1 and #2- Pureology Pure Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. Since I have extensions, I have to use Pureology, which I love but the price blows. Herbal Essences makes a great one I used before I got my weave did, yo. What I do love about Pureology is that while some other volumizing products rough up the cuticle to add volume and that can result in frizz-Pureology is still uber moisturizing and pumps up the cuticle with all natural, vegan ingredients.

#3 Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. I know, right? I put this on my wet hair and kind of scrunch it in gently. Gently, because I want BIG but not FRO, you dig?

#4 Frederic Fekkai All Day Hair Plump Ok…I love this. I originally got a sample from Sephora and was hooked. The price tag kind of sucks-but mix it with the Surf Spray on wet hair and VA-VA-VOOM! Again, it’s super conditioning so your big hair will be soft! I use this OR the fantabulous Moroccanoil that I’ve blogged about here.#5 Ok…products in. Now it’s time to blowdry. I use a big round brush and work in the OPPOSITE direction my hair lies, kind of stretching my hair against my head as I go. In addition to the opposite direction thing, I turn my head upside down and go to town until it’s still damp, and then smooth with a paddle brush. GOAL-to look like you got electrocuted at this point.
#6 and #7 I will curl my hair with my flat iron as seen here when I want smooth on top but pretty princess curls at the bottom, however when I want BIG HAIR, I use velcro rollers and bobby pins. (I use pins because I have so much hair that the rollers tend to fall.) OR I make my own curls and pin minus the rollers. I spray each section of hair HEAVILY before I pin it. I’m used to sleeping on them which really works the best. If you can’t, finish blow drying on low and spray like crazy.
#8,9,10John Freida Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray . Because I still LOVE it. Big hair requires lots of hairspray. So find one that you love. I love the price on this and it is NEVER crunchy, ew hate that, right?

So…wake up/stop blow drying and let each curl out. This is the IMPORTANT PART. Turn your head upside down and gently comb through at the roots with your fingers. Do NOT brush. Shake it, tousle it, but if you brush it=frizz it. And then….a little shine serum of your choice to detangle…spray again, and toss around all day.

Whewww…I hope that was helpful!!

What’s the coolest accessory to add to your big badass hair? The Mandizzle Ropey. The WINNER of a Ropey of their very own is D at Dooder City!! Have to say-I’m pretty stoked-she’s been one of my blog friends from the beginning of TIME. Or my blog whatever. YAY!! I’ll be in touch D! This giveaway was a HIT, thank you so much for playing along…and remember you can get your own Mandizzle creation here! Stay tuned, I have more fun stuff up my sleeve for you!!

Happy Weekend dolls! XOXO, Liz (P.S. Date tonight. I’m NERVOUS.)(All images via vi.sualize.us)

2 Melissa July 30, 2009 at 9:19 pm

Well that sure does answer the "how'd you get your hair so big?" question. That is a ton of work but it looks fantastic.

Me. I'm more of the sexy just got out of bed look. My friends call me sex hair. Funny when it's just us but when parents and strangers are around it can get a bit…weird.

I love ya mucho you big hair girly!!
Muah!

good job explaining hair. I wonder if I could convince myself to sleep with the rollers in. I think I would take them out in my sleep..hmm

Maybe I'll do a practice run before school starts.

5 Shopn'Chomp July 30, 2009 at 10:09 pm

Large and in charge! (Your hair, that is) Great tut and pics :)

6 Jessica July 30, 2009 at 10:32 pm

Oh my, too bad I don't have the length for it. I have a short hair, which I keep that way for easy (and cheaper) maintenance. Haha.

Hey, let's do THRILLER! We'll totally rock it! You do my makeup! I don't think I need too much, though. I look like a zombie as is. Hahaha..

And DVF huh? It was because of her that I fell in love with wrap-dresses. She's just superb, her works are fabulous!

7 ♥Aubrey July 30, 2009 at 10:37 pm

BIG hair the better right? I need to get me some of these velcro rollers you speak of. Shampoo & conditioner is a B**** to find. I use K-Pak…Love it ♥ Now shake…poof & spray!!!

12 The Haute-Shopper July 31, 2009 at 12:29 am

Terrific post! Thanks for the info. I'll have to see if I can source those voluminizing products you refer to (I have my doubts about the shampoo, but considering France created Sephora, they better have the rest). Oh, and read your comment on Kellie's blog… congrats on the SATC gig! I'm relying on you for behind-the-scene deets and gossip ;-)

Oh my photoshoot thing isn't really that interesting. It's stick thin models sitting in a cafe pretending to be besties. But I'll take that over an office job any day!

Have a fab weekend and an awesome date! I'm sure it will go well :)

13 ONiC July 31, 2009 at 12:33 am

Since my curly hair is usually BIG all on its own, I must say…dang you go through a lot to look so damn good! Seriously though. What time do you wake up?!? Haha.

Good luck on your date tonight!

20 ashley-cita July 31, 2009 at 5:15 am

Ooooh! Thanks for the tips! My baby fine hair does not understand the whole getting-big-staying-big concept, although the pureology definitely helps.
I'll have to pick up the fekaai. His smoothing cream is fab, too.

21 Alianna July 31, 2009 at 5:18 am

And how often do you spend 6 hours doing your hair?! *sigh* I love it, but I'm just not going for the 6 hour routine. I'll have to figure out a short cut.

P.S. Good luck with the date!

22 captivate me. July 31, 2009 at 5:27 am

Thanks for the info! My thin straight hair is gonna look hawt, yo :) Oh, since I can't afford Pureology, 'specially if I indulge in the Fekkai stuff, which Herbal Essences shamp/cond do you recommend instead?

32 Lindsay [Bella Cene'] July 31, 2009 at 7:59 am

Hey! just letting you know I used one of your pictures [not claiming it's me lol] to link back to your blog on how to get big hair :)

34 Delectable Swank July 31, 2009 at 8:14 am

Ok, I love your hair, you know I do, but that is a lot of work! How do you find the time to do all that!?!? I'd have to get up like 2 hours earlier just to do it. So I'm saving it for this weekend as a trial. :) Wish me luck. We'll see how it goes! :)

40 Nina (Femme Rationale) July 31, 2009 at 8:53 am

i use velcro rollers sometimes but it takes AWHILE for me to roll up my entire head. i'm prolly not as skilled as you to get it everything done in an hour. but i agree that the results are worth it.

41 Pop Champagne July 31, 2009 at 9:04 am

Yet another wonderful post, I have to say I also love pureology and Bumble and Bumble, but like you, wish it wasn't so expensive. But…I do think it is worth the price to keep your hair in fab condition like yours! I really want to try the Surf spray, I think that would be perfect for my hair. Also need to get some rollers because usually I just curl my hair.

Hope your date night goes well! Don't be nervous, just be beautiful and gorgeous you! Oh, and you should make the hair big and beautiful like this post! Yay!

55 E July 31, 2009 at 3:53 pm
